Frequently asked questions

Unified Communications use IP (Internet Protocol) transport pathways to consolidate all of the different communication tools into a single, logical system that improves the user experience while reducing costs and management requirements. Unified communications get all of those moving parts in sync in a format that’s easy to manage and gives you incredible flexibility. Your desk phone, computer, and mobile device work seamlessly to make your communications flow fast, easy and efficient.

VoIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol and it is phone service that travels over the internet instead of using traditional copper wiring for transmission.

Universal Service Fund (USF) fees are imposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on telecommunications companies, and intended to ensure that everyone in the US has access to telephone services. USF fees change quarterly. The most up-to-date fees and information can be found on the FCC website.

If your internet fails, your calls will automatically re-route to your mobile app, or forward to any other landline or cell phone number you have designated.

The major difference between the premise based system and the hosted, is the requirement to purchase, host, and maintain the actual phone server at your premise. This option is sometimes well suited for companies with a full-time IT staff, and appropriate facilities for hosting the server. However, it should also be considered, that good hosted providers will constantly be adding and improving on their features. This may be more difficult for a premise based server, unless your company has the programming staff to implement these features on their own. Remember, with hosted service, you only have the phones to worry about; the hosted provider handles the rest!

There is almost never any downtime during switch overs. In fact, less than 1% of our customers even notice when the switch occurred until we notify them that the switch is complete.

There is no difference. These are marketing terms used within the telecommunications industry. UC stands for Unified Communications, while UCaaS (pronounced as “U-Cass”) stands for Unified Communications as a Service. Slightly expanded name, but both are identical services.
